What is lowercase?

lowercase is uncapitalized letters of an alphabet. The terms of lowercase, sometimes also are spelled as two words, and lower case refers to small letters (a, b, c, …, z) as distinguished from capital letters (A, B, C, …, Z).

Originally, the forms of lowercase letter derived from Carolingian minuscule. Historians believe that uppercase letters, which are also known as majuscule, came first.

However, the smaller versions of each letter were developed. It probably happened, the writer at that time written a letter quickly to save time and space. The letters became smaller and more rounded as scribes hurried to finish their work fast.

English writing system uses a dual alphabet which is a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters. Lowercase is generally used for the letters in all words except at the beginning of the sentence.

When do you use lowercase?

When we discuss lowercase or uppercase, we also need to know about proper noun and common noun.

A proper noun is a noun that belongs to the class of words used as names for a specific or unique individual, event, or place while common noun names any person, place, thing, or idea.

By convention, all common nouns use lowercase letter, and all proper nouns use uppercase letters.

Examples of proper nouns: John, New York, Jupiter, Fanta, etc (begin with a capitalized letter).

Examples of common nouns: dog, star, baby, girl , etc (begin with uncapitalized letter).

All you need is copy-paste your text to the text area and click the “lower case” button. After your text changed into lower case, you can save your work as a .txt file or just click the copy button (button with clipboard icon) if you want it to paste it to another text editor.
